“Amek Gambar” (“taking pictures”): Peranakans and Photography presents a collection of early photographs depicting the Peranakan community, including the oldest example in Singapore’s National Collection—an 1857-1858 portrait of a Peranakan family. My responsibility was to design this 425-page book, adding a distinctive touch with pink edge printing to infuse a sense of modernity.
